2011 Chevy Camaro Review

The new incarnation of the Camaro has a toned-down body reminiscent of the 1969 design. The 2011 Camaro is available in five new trim levels: 1LT, 1LT, LS, 1SS, and 2SS. The 3.6-liter V6 version kicks in a bit more power, 312 horsepower, than last year’s model at 304 horsepower. For those who want to control the power, the LS and LT are available in a manual version. If you are looking for more power, the manual transmission comes standard on the 426 horsepower, 6.2-liter V8 SS.

The additional power gives this new version a little more get up. The manual transmission is favored over the automatic. Shifting with the manual seems smoother than the automatic. The automatic is slow to downshift when extra power is needed. The powerful 426 V8 is very much the beast it sounds like. The automatic and manual design provides a lot of acceleration, even in the higher gears.

The interior has also been redesigned. The fuel, speed, tachometer, and temperature gauges have been placed in front of the driver. The engine torque, oil temperature, oil pressure, and voltage gauges have been changed from circles to squares and placed above the gear shifter. Right above those is the controls for climate and audio. The standard interior is the plastic dashboard and cloth seats of previous versions. The 2SS and 2LT feature upgraded leather.

Twenty-inch wheels are standard on the LT version and 21-inch wheels available as upgrades on all 2011 versions. Other upgrades available on the various models include rear-obstacle detection, USB port, remote engine start, satellite radio, and wireless cell phone link. The 2011 Camaro comes standard with six airbags including side curtain airbags. Also included are 4-wheel ABS, traction control, anti-skid system, tire pressure monitor, and stability control.

The downsides to the 2011 Camaro is because it’s a sports car, the interior is small. Also, it is larger than most sports cars so it is not as agile as others. And finally, the windows are too small, which reduces visibility. Overall the 2011 Chevy Camaro holds its own against comparable vehicles.
