BMW 1 Series M Coupe

December 11th, 2010

After a huge anticipation, spy shots teasers and different information all over the media BMW officially presented the finished product – BMW 1 series M coupe. During the presentation the folks from BMW displayed the new car next to the old and legendary M3 E30 from 1988. The reason behind this is that they believe that with the new 1 series M they have achieved perfection by focusing only on one thing – Driving pleasure, feeling that slowly disappeared during the years after the first M car. The problem is that the followed cars were heavier, more complicated and in a way worse to drive. With the latest M car BMW are clearly stating that they are going back to basics. BMW have made the ultimate driving machine once again.

The smallest M car so far has been built using the platform of the familiar 135i coupe. However the M version is bigger, mainly due to the improved spoilers. It weighs only 1495 kilos which is with 35 less than the standard 135i. The engine comes from the Z4 – 3 litre twin turbo charged petrol engine producing 335bhp and 450Nm of torque available from 1500 to 4500 rpm. At first only a six speed manual transmission will be available with a specially manufactured oil tank which is made from aluminium. The power is delivered to the rear wheels, just like every proper sports car. The 1series M coupe will be able to accelerate from 0 to 60 in less than 4,9 seconds and reach 155mph (electronically limited).

The suspension and the steering have been improved and precisely tuned in order to give the car stability, agility and most of all make it fun to drive. As with every other M car you will be able to adjust the sensitivity of the steering and the gas pedal through the use of the M button that is located on the steering wheel. The new M car will be available in Q1 2011 in three colours – Alpine White, Black Sapphire Metallic and Valencia Orange Metallic.
